Definitive Attributes of God

Definitive Attributes of God

Postby Philomath on Sun Jun 15, 2008 1:05 am

Omniscient
Omnipresent
Omnipotent
Triune
Eternal

These define the nature of God. All the other attributes you may list describe the character of God. (unless someone wants to point out that I missed something)

God has a nature that cannot change, or he would no longer be God.

Here's a controversial statement: God's character is a matter of His choice, and COULD be different if he so chose. Kind of puts a different twist on God's love for you!

Nature: Essence
Character: A mark, cut or engraved on a hard surface
Where the Spirit of the Lord is, there is Liberty.

Responding to Blasphemy

Postby Job Elihu Braun on Sat Jun 27, 2009 5:34 pm

To say that God chooses to be Just, True, Loving, Righteous... Is Blasphemy of the worst kind. God is eternal, He has always existed in the same state as He is now; God being eternal could not decide one day to be just.
He is The Word He is the source of definition for all truth, reality, and morality.
To say that God chooses truth, is to say that there exists a definition of good and evil apart from God. How do we know sin? The Law of God!!! You would say that we know sin from nature.
The Law of God has its definition and source in God's nature, not the universe.

In Him there is Light and No darkness at all: not because He chooses it, but because it is His nature to be Good.
The choice God has is not the being good, but Who He bestows His goodnes on.
Rom 9:18 "Therefore hath he mercy on whom he will have mercy, and whom he will he hardeneth."
Rom 9:14 "What shall we say then? Is there unrighteousness with God? God forbid."
Mercy has always existed in the being of God. It is not a separate entity.
If God chooses to be Truthful, THEN TRUTH IS RELATIVE!!!
IF TRUTH IS SEPARATE FROM GOD, THEN JESUS IS NOT THE TRUTH!!! (Joh 14:6)

There exists No definition of Truth, Justice, Righteousness, and etc. apart from God's nature, and His Law is the revelation of His nature and being.
